چکیده

Adult vial technique (AVt) and spray table bioassays were conducted to evaluate toxicity of selected insecticides against immature and adult thrips, Frankliniella spp. (thysanoptera: thripidae). In AVt, technical insecticides comprised of organophosphates (dicrotophos and methamidophos), spinosyn (spinosad) and neonicotinoids (thiamethoxam and imidacloprid) were used. the LC50 values for contact with the insecticides were all significantly different, with spinosad being most toxic and imidacloprid being least toxic to thrips. Spray table tests were conducted with formulated insecticides comprised of dicrotophos, methamidophos and spinosad on thrips-infested greenhouse-grown cotton plants. Multiple treatments of varying droplet sizes and densities were made at 19 L/ha (2 gpa), and thrips were sampled at 1, 3 and 7 days after treatment (dAt). droplet characteristics (size and density) and dAt did not significantly influence post-treatment thrips densities on cotton plants. Average numbers of thrips/plant on methamidophosand spinosad-treated cotton plants were significantly fewer than those on dicrotophos-treated and untreated plants. Spray table treatments were also made to examine effects of spray volume [19(2) and 47(5) L/ha(gpa)] and active ingredient (a.i.) rates of spinosad against thrips on cotton at 3, 5, 7 and 14 dAt. Averaged across dAt, increased spray volume rate 47 L/ha provided better control at lower spinosad a.i. rate indicating that improved coverage increased efficacy of spinosad concentrations below label rate. The efficacy of spinosad against the western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis, and its impact on associated biological control agents on greenhouse cucumbers in southern Ontario.

Insecticides are the most commonly used tactic to control western flower thrips (WFT), Frankliniella occidentalis Pergande (Thysanoptera: Thripidae), on greenhouse cucumber. However, WFT has developed resistance to several of the insecticides presently in use. In addition, some of these insecticides adversely affect greenhouse biological control agents used to control WFT, resulting in subseque...

Efficacy of Reduced-Risk Insecticides to Control Flower Thrips in Early-Season Blueberries and Their Effect on Orius insidiosus, a Natural Enemy of Flower Thrips

Flower thrips are one of the key pests in production of southern highbush blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum L. × V. darrowi Camp). They feed on the reproductive parts of the flower and reduce yield. Very few insecticides are available to manage thrips population. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate pre-existing and experimental insecticides for their efficacy against thrips. There is also a ...

Effect of Cover-Crop Burndown Timing on Efficacy of At-Planting Insecticides for Thrips Control in Arkansas Cotton, 2005

Insecticides used at planting, either in-furrow or as seed treatments, are the recommended management option for control of thrips in cotton in Arkansas (Greene, 00 ). However, in recent years the efficacy of standards, such as aldicarb in-furrow, has decreased. This has resulted in added cost of control due to foliar insecticide applications being required in addition to the at-planting insect...

Impacts on Natural Enemies and Competitor Thrips of Insecticides against the Western Flower Thrips (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) in Fruiting Vegetables

Newer, selective insecticides with few negative impacts on natural enemies and competitor species are needed for effective, sustainable management of the western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impacts on natural enemies and competitor thrips species of insecticides used for control of western flower thrips in fruiting vegetabl...

Effect of reduced risk pesticides on greenhouse vegetable arthropod biological control agents.

BACKGROUND Arthropod biological control agents (BCAs) are commonly released for greenhouse vegetable insect pest management. Nevertheless, chemicals remain a necessary control tactic for certain insect pests and diseases and they can have negative impacts on BCAs. The compatibility of some formulated reduced risk insecticides (abamectin, metaflumizone and chlorantraniliprole) and fungicides (my...
